The price of militarism includes more than high taxes and poor social
services. Building nuclear weapons, for instance, has probably been the
biggest environmental disaster this country has ever seen. More than 100
nuclear weapons plants owned by the Energy Department have been spewing
radioactive waste into the air, dumping it in rivers, and leaking it
into the soil and groundwater for decades.
All under the cover of government secrecy.
