1. The purpose of the Corporation shall be charitable, religious activity, and to conduct any related business to contribute to the performance of said activities. The primary purpose of the Corporation shall be to minister to the needs of the Fellowship, defined as those persons who have adopted the Six Principles and are enrolled as members of the Fellowship pursuant to these Bylaws.
2. The Corporation shall have a single Director. The Director shall personally adhere to the Six Principles of Oestia, attached hereto as Attachment A. The Six Principles shall guide the Director in his management of the Corporation. The Director shall make a written record of all major actions affecting the welfare of the Corporation and/or the Fellowship, and such a written record shall be the property of the Corporation. The Officers may inspect the written record of corporate acts, and shall keep the same confidential except as approved in writing by the Director.
3. The Director shall select the Officers of the Corporation, whose duties, names, contact information, and compensation, shall be recorded in the records of the Corporation. The Officers of the Corporation shall serve three-year terms, that may be renewed at any yearly meeting of the Corporation. The Director may remove and/or appoint new Officers upon thirty days written notice to any sitting Officers.
4. In addition to the established offices of Secretary and Treasurer, which may be combined under a single office, the Director shall appoint the First Medicine Guide. The First Medicine Guide's term of office shall be perpetual. Removal of the First Medicine Guide from office shall be only by the decision of the Director, after a thorough hearing of the grounds for removal by a tribunal consisting of the Officers. The First Medicine Guide shall establish the methods and requirements for the proper preparation of the Medicine, as defined in the Sixth Principle, and shall authorize the creation of a seal of authenticity to be affixed to Medicine that is prepared according to his or her directions. All Medicine to be used by the Fellowship shall bear the seal of authenticity authorized by the First Medicine Guide, and no other Medicine shall be authorized for use or used in Fellowship Medicine Circles. The purpose of this Bylaw is to protect the health and safety of the Fellowship.
5. The Corporation shall maintain a record of all members of the Fellowship, setting forth the date of their enrollment, their contact information, and their present standing in the Fellowship. Standards for remaining in good standing within the Fellowship shall be adopted by the Corporation and recorded in the records of the Corporation. Removal of a member of the Fellowship from a position of good standing shall require the concurrence of the First Medicine Guide and the Director.
6. The First Medicine Guide shall establish all conditions to be adhered to by the Fellowship in the performance of Medicine Circles, and shall have authority to initiate members of the Fellowship in their use of Medicine. The First Medicine Guide may appoint Medicine Guides to perform the Medicine ceremonies of the Fellowship with the subsequent approval of the Director, that shall be presumed to be granted unless the Director expressly states otherwise. A person must be a member of the Fellowship to be appointed a Medicine Guide. When the First Medicine Guide appoints a Medicine Guide, the First Medicine Guide shall immediately notify the Director in writing of the appointment, and the Director shall record the name and contact information of the Medicine Guide in the records of the Fellowship. Medicine Guides may receive compensation for their work solely as expressly authorized by the Corporation in writing, and shall not enhance their own personal wealth by personally appropriating donations from the Fellowship or by dealing in property of the Corporation.
7. Recognized Medicine Guides may request to serve the Fellowship by establishing Oestia Centers in different geographic locations, and their requests may be approved only by the joint decision of the Director and the First Medicine Guide, recorded in the membership records as Center Directors of the Fellowship. Center Directors shall conduct all of their activities in accordance with the Six Principles, act as fiduciaries of the Corporation, and care for the resources coming into their possession or control as a result of the performance of their duties as the resources of the Corporation. Center Directors shall keep accurate records of all donations from Fellowship members and provide reports in a timely fashion to the Secretary and the Director. Center Directors may receive compensation for their work solely as expressly authorized by the Corporation in writing, and shall not enhance their own personal wealth by personally appropriating donations from the Fellowship or by dealing in property of the Corporation.
8. The First Medicine Guide may suspend the authority of Medicine Guides and Center Directors to act in their official capacities, and shall do so when appropriate. Except where set aside by the Director upon special application in writing to the Director, the First Medicine Guide’s action of suspending the authority of a Medicine Guide shall be final. Suspension of a Medicine Guide’s authority shall not remove a member of the Fellowship from good standing except and unless the decision is made as set forth in Bylaw 5. Under ordinary circumstances, a Center Director may be removed from office upon thirty days notice to the affected Center Director by the joint written action of the First Medicine Guide and the Director; however, after making a written finding that unilateral action is warranted, the Director may remove a Center Director from office without the concurrence of the First Medicine Guide. A Center Director may be removed from office by the action of the Director acting without prior notice to the Center Director in the event the Director makes a written finding that emergency action is required to protect the Corporation, the Fellowship, or the general public.
9. The Corporation shall assert the sole and exclusive right to use the name "Oestia" in connection with operation of a church or philosophy or school, and shall act affirmatively to protect the exclusivity of its use, so that no other entity may use the name without the Corporation's approval.
10. Any authorization to utilize the name "Oestia" shall be in writing, to an individual or entity, signed by the Director, based upon a finding that such use will be for the purposes set forth in the Six Principles of Oestia, and shall be subject to revocation upon due notice and an opportunity to respond, with the final decision in the sole discretion of the Director.
11. The Director may take action via oral or written directives. When deciding a substantial matter, such as the replacement of officers, the purchase or sale of real property, the purchase or sale of personal property of high value, and the taking of corporate action with respect to governmental regulation, the Director shall seek the advice of the First Medicine Guide, and the Officers, elicit their views, and take action with due consideration thereof.
12. The Corporation shall have yearly meetings to consider the affairs of the Corporation, to review the books and records of the Corporation, to consider the fitness of the Officers to continue in their positions, to replace Officers who wish to retire or need to be replaced, and to take such other actions as are relevant to the welfare of the Corporation. The Corporation shall give notice to the Fellowship of the time and place of each yearly meeting, and shall devote sufficient time at the yearly meeting to hear and respond to the concerns of members of the Fellowship.
13. The Corporation may conduct transactions and authorize legal action for or on behalf of any person or entity upon a finding by the Director that it would further the purposes of Oestia and/or the Six Principles of Oestia to do so. The Director and Officers shall give ear to the concerns of all members of the Fellowship, and shall respond to their concerns. The Corporation shall endeavor to provide legal support to any member of the Fellowship who finds themselves subject to legal action due to their adherence to the Six Principles of Oestia. Under no circumstance shall this Bylaw be deemed to authorize the pre-planning of unlawful activities or the provision of support to any individual or organization engaged in criminal conduct.
14. The assets of Oestia shall not be the property of any individual, and the books and records of Oestia shall be made available for review by the Officers and the First Medicine Guide at each yearly meeting.
15. The liabilities of Oestia shall be solely of the Corporation, and shall not inure to the financial detriment of the Director, the First Medicine Guide, or the Officers.
16. To the extent permitted by law, the Corporation shall indemnify and hold harmless the Director, the First Medicine Guide, and the Officers for all acts performed in their official capacities.
17. These bylaws may be amended by the concurrence of the Director and the First Medicine Guide. Any amendments shall be effective upon the date of their adoption, and notice shall be given to the Officers prior thereto.
Adopted by the Director this ___th day of June, 2012

May I see the world fresh,
May I hear life in every voice.
May the scent of growing plants be in my breath,
And their sweetness in my mouth.
May healing flow from my voice,
May benefit flow from my hands.
May I travel far, see true, and
Pass on the human tradition
Richer than I received.
May Terra shine beautiful,
Sustaining all living beings
Within her precious orb
Until Sol’s race is run.
May humanity outlive Sol.
May kindness and enduring happiness
Be our human legacy.

Dream at Jim's house, Maui, September 8, 2012, 6:00 a.m.
Charles and I were at the base of a very large, old church that was built from rocks. We were going through very tiny spaces, about 4 inches wide, squeezing ourselves through, to get to the place where we had to save people's lives before something really bad happened. Charles went through the space in front, but I couldn't get through, even though I had been through before. There were a bunch of rocks side by side to the opening, so I put my fingers between the opening and pushed it apart very slightly. The triangular rock next to my finger shifted and turned just a notch to make the opening larger, and the whole building started to shake and shift. The building was coming down. It was about 450 stories tall, very ancient. We got to the top and there were two nuns in white robes holding services. One of the nuns was pregnant, and another woman was also pregnant. The building was falling apart, and I yelled to one of the little children to run as fast as he could out of there, and I also ran fast. The building fell down, and in the ashes, the two nuns were standing before a small fire, and the two babies were born.
Afterwards, I remembered a vision I had had the day before of a woman/mountain pointing towards the rocks.

I made a more abbreviated version of what's written below on Alistair Appleton's blog in response to his article "Do Buddhists Watch Telly?" about the four ayahuasca experiences he supposedly had in Brazil while filming his movie "The Man Who Drank the Universe." We'll see if he publishes it.
http://alistairappleton.com/blog/?p=87&cpage=1#comment-361658
I don't believe a word of it. You sound like you're selling something, like some silly, irresponsible "peace with the world" business, as well as your movie.
During my first "Ayahuasca" experience -- actually, there is no such thing as "Ayahuasca," it being just a general term for a variety of substances and combinations in the general category of DMT and MAOI; therefore, clarification is needed, the clarification here being that the substance I consumed was prepared with two parts vine and one part leaf -- I became EXTREMELY cold, experienced the plant's memory of countless ages and seasons, then blacked out in what I perceived as the plant's hibernation state. My second experience was akin to being thrown around in the worst hurricane ever.
http://www.naderlibrary.com/dante01.toc.htm
The "ayahuasca" spirit ate my face, and attacked my belly in what I perceived as a war between this "tough love" female creative force of the universe and an alien male force that wanted to kill everyone. She literally consumed and possessed me, and after six hours of intense sweating, writhing, and diarrhea, where every breath threw me into a black hole, my head turned into a blazing sun, and I felt like I had gotten the most profound initiation ever, as in, all the previous Tibetan Buddhist initiations I had received over 22 years were a joke. The third and fourth experiences were more mellow at lower doses, consisting mainly of plant-dendritic visions that were boring. The fifth experience I decided to fight it after consuming what my medicine man terms "the heroic dose" (3 oz.), because I didn't want to SUBMIT to its fascist control, contrary to my medicine man's pious-authoritarian instructions for ego-death. That was a trip. After doing my best to reject the whole thing, a process that involved actively and loudly ridiculing the substance ("Let those who want to grovel towards Ayahuasca grovel!"), refusing to close my eyes and look at it, being rocked in the arms of my loving husband who sang beautiful songs to me, doing the hokey pokey several times in the middle of the room, and making many irreverent jokes about the substance, including a series of them we called "You can't defeat an avocado," the substance was ready to take a second, horrible run at me, grabbing my very breath, which I really resent -- MY BREATH IS MY BREATH! -- and I was grateful for the humongous, incredible, long-lasting vomit that got me out.
My sixth dose came from another medicine man, and was mellow and short-lived: I had a vision of silver metallic female sculptures with suns instead of heads decaying in the forest, and other nice psychedelic visuals. He prepares the mixture with less vine and more leaf, not wanting his travelers to suffer from diarrhea and vomiting. What an enlightened attitude! This experience stands as an exception to the others because of the different preparation of the substance.
Now, after six Ayahuasca trips this last month, I believe "the heroic dose" of Ayahuasca prepared with two parts vine and one part leaf was invented by Nazis, or at least people insensitive to the identity needs of individuals (Sparrow Jonathon Miller Weisberger and the Equadorian Secoya ayahuasceros). There is nothing friendly about it, mostly death, dragons, fascism and control. See Marc Caro's "Dante 01" for my current view of that substance.
So I'm not writing the thing off. I am going to continue experimenting with different doses and preparations to find the perfect, blissful visionary experience delivered by a compassionate and loving "Ayahuasca" being. Mixing the substances in various combinations is sort of the experience of "God" creating. It's doing Dr. Frankenstein one better, because these beings actually LIVE and were never dead. It's tuning in to plant magic.
But let's at least tell the truth about our experiences with words that ring true. |

This is an email I just sent to the Cell.com admin:
domainsupport@elsevier.com
Re: An Unusual Request for Service
Dear Sir or Madam:
I looked closely at your cell.com site yesterday, and really enjoyed the pictures. But I didn't find electron microscope views of the pictures I came there to see, which was of (1) psychotria viridis, and (2) Banisteriopsis cappi. I thought, what the heck, I'll shoot cell.com an email and ask them if they could get someone to take some pictures. These are the ingredients of what is called "Ayahuasca," which, considering the remarkable effects of ingesting this combination, I thought someone there at cell.com might be interested in looking more closely at these two plants' cell structure, especially since the microscopic view of itself seems to be the primary content of the visions. This is an interesting subject some curious scientist should get on to. I would love to see if the cell structure matches the visions.
What's more, the combination of these two plants seems to create plant entities!! Now, that is a subject of scientific interest. Almost everyone agrees that what is produced is an ayahuasca spirit being. I experienced this, although I didn't like the spirit being I met, but I am interested in producing another one more to my liking by perhaps combining different amounts/qualities of the same and similar substances.
Sincerely,
Tara Carreon |
