"People just didn't know what the hell Jim and company were
doing. Angleton was a little like the Wizard
of Oz. There wasn't anything there. But he made a lot of trouble."
The former CIA man paused as though wondering if he should go
on. Then he took the plunge. "The place was a morass of irrationality.
You can use the word 'crazy.' These people were a little bit crazy. Not
a little bit. Quite crazy. Jim was a tortured, twisted personality. Oh,
he could be charming, and pleasant, but at bottom, he was a son of
a bitch. He was a bad man."
