Their tips are filled with blood, red blood because it contains hemoglobin like our own. Fossilized tubes of worms like these have been found dating back hundreds of millions of years. Strange eel-like fish and a few other creatures survive the crushing pressure of 2,000 pounds per square inch. A curious thing about this lonely habitat is that it resembles in some ways earth's primordial sea when it was roiled by volcanic activity.
